Korn frontman Jonathan Davis will release a DVD this fall filmed on his first solo European tour. The disc will include footage from his June 16th, 2008 concert in London, England, and will be available as both a single DVD package and an expanded set also containing a CD and other yet-to-be-announced bonus features. There's no word yet on an exact release date for the set. Davis is also said to be working on his first solo album, but little information has surfaced about the project yet.
Davis launched his first-ever solo tour in late 2007 in the U.S., performing a mix of Korn rarities, unreleased material and soundtrack songs.
Meanwhile, Korn guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer has issued an update on his own solo project, a new band called Fear and the Nervous System. He wrote, "Let me start by saying I am not leaving Korn. I started this project because I want to express myself musically and show the world a different side of me, creatively...Right now I have 13 tracks done and I am currently working on the vocals. It is a challenge for me but I love it and my heart is into it." The release has been moved from August to a yet-to-be-determined date. The band features past and present members of Faith No More and Bad Religion in addition to Shaffer on guitar and vocals.
Korn itself is expected to reconvene later this year to begin working on the follow-up to 2007's untitled eighth studio effort.
The 1997 Smashing Pumpkins song "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning" has been given a new injection of life thanks to its inclusion in the first trailer for the upcoming movie Watchmen, which debuted Friday (July 18th) in theatres in front of The Dark Knight and online. According to RollingStone.com, the song immediately became the number one downloaded Pumpkins track on iTunes, and also made the top 40 most popular tunes overall. A spokesperson for Apple, which owns the iTunes store, said, "Oftentimes there are relations between songs prominently placed in movies or ads and their success on the iTunes charts."
Watchmen is due out in March of 2009 and is based on the acclaimed graphic novel, a reinvention of the superhero genre set in an alternate United States. The song was also included on the soundtrack of the 1997 film Batman and Robin, the last in the series until its recent reboot with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. The Smashing Pumpkins will begin a late summer tour on August 8th in Davenport, Iowa, with shows also planned for the fall to celebrate the group's 20th anniversary.
